Feature facts

Plain answers about what ScryRPG does.

ScryRPG is a shared campaign manager for D&D and other tabletop RPGs where your whole table keeps one living campaign together: shared inventory, loot, shops, characters, and lore the table can use, not just store, on the web and in Discord.

One fact at a time, grouped by feature. For the full tour of any part, follow its page below.

The short version

Category
A shared campaign manager for D&D and other tabletop RPGs.
Where it runs
On the web and natively in Discord, both reading one campaign kept in sync.
Free tier
Free forever, no card required. Most tables never need to upgrade.
Supported systems
D&D 5e, Pathfinder 2e, Daggerheart, and Draw Steel.
Who it is for
GMs, players, and whole tables, built so the party shares the campaign rather than leaving it to the GM alone.

Shops and the economy

Shops your party buys from

Does ScryRPG run automated shops?
Yes. A GM stocks a shop once and it runs on its own, handling pricing, stock, and transactions.
Can players buy from shops between sessions?
Yes. Once a shop is stocked and revealed, players browse and buy from the web or Discord on their own time, with no GM present.
Where does the gold come from on a purchase?
The buying character's coin pouch. Gold is deducted from the buyer automatically.
Where does a purchased item land?
On the buying character, or in the shared party stash. It shows up in party inventory for the whole table.
Can the same item be sold twice?
No. Stock counts down as players buy, so limited stock cannot be bought twice. Items set never to restock do not come back once sold.
Do shops restock?
Yes. A shop can auto-restock on an interval from 1 to 365 days, individual items can override that schedule, and a GM can trigger a manual restock at any time.
Can prices be set per shop or per item?
Yes. Each shop sets a markup (what players pay above base price) and a buyback rate (what players receive when selling), plus an optional discount, and individual items can override the shop pricing.
Can players sell items back?
Yes. Players sell gear to a shop for its buyback rate, and the shop pays from its own gold.
Do new shops appear to players right away?
No. Shops deploy hidden so the GM can prepare them, then the GM reveals them when the party arrives.

Party inventory

One inventory the table shares

Is inventory shared across the party?
Yes. One party inventory holds every character's gear, the shared containers, and the gold, and the whole table can read and update it.
Does inventory sync between web and Discord?
Yes, in real time. Web and Discord read one campaign, so a change on one shows on the other with nothing to reconcile.
Does it track encumbrance?
Yes. Every item carries weight and slots, or Pathfinder 2e Bulk, and each character's load totals against a capacity from Strength or a party setting. Encumbrance is optional and can be set to none.
Are unidentified items supported?
Yes. A GM can hold an item as a mystery and reveal its true nature to the whole party in a shared reveal.

Loot

Build it, reveal it, players claim it

How does loot work?
A GM builds a balanced hoard, reveals it when the moment lands, and each player claims what is theirs. Claimed items land straight on the right character sheet or in a shared container.
Is every claim recorded?
Yes. Every claim, purchase, and hand-off lands in the party activity feed as it happens.
Can loot be shared out fairly?
Yes. The GM picks a distribution method: free-for-all claiming, GM-only, need/greed/pass voting, round robin, or value-balanced.
Can loot attach to a fight?
Yes. Attach a hoard to an encounter and it drops to the party the moment the fight ends.

Encounters

Prep the fight, deploy it to the table

Where do the monsters come from?
The full D&D 5e SRD bestiary, published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license with attribution kept on every creature. You can add your own monsters and fork creatures other GMs shared.
Does it balance the fight?
Yes. A difficulty meter runs the DMG XP threshold math, from easy to deadly, against your party's real size and levels, live as you build.
How does initiative work on deploy?
The server rolls initiative for every combatant once, a d20 plus each modifier, and records it. No rerolls and no off-screen rolling. Variant dice ranges, like 2d4 wolves, resolve on deploy.
What do players see during a fight?
Health bands: healthy, wounded, critical, down. Never exact hit points, and only after the GM reveals the encounter. The GM sees the numbers, and the filtering is enforced by the server.
How many fights can run at once?
One active encounter per party at a time.
Can I build encounters on the free plan?
Yes. Building and prepping encounters is unlimited on every plan, including Free. Deploying an encounter to your party is metered monthly: 3 deployments on Free, 6 on Player, unlimited on GM and Patron.
What happens when a fight ends?
The attached loot drops, XP is tallied from the defeated creatures' challenge ratings, and the battle lands on the campaign timeline.

Printable RPG cards

Put campaign content on the table

What can become a printable card?
Items, creatures, lore-NPC handouts and mechanical references, spells and abilities, and encounter overviews. Each kind gets a fixed table-reference layout drawn from the campaign source.
Can a full stat block fit?
Yes. Table Reference keeps the essential creature or NPC mechanics on one bounded face; choose Full Rules when the complete authorized stat block needs to continue across numbered faces.
Can I print a complete set?
Yes. Encounters can add their overview, authorized unique creatures, and attached loot together. Shops, loot sets, and inventories add their authorized item contents.
Are QR links required?
No. They are optional. When included, they lead an authorized viewer back to the live ScryRPG entry without making private or GM-only campaign material public.
Is printing free?
Yes. Card creation, print, PDF, PNG, ZIP, and optional QR links are available on every plan.
How many reusable decks can I save?
Free: 1, Player: 10, GM: Unlimited, Patron: Unlimited. Patron also includes a managed custom party card back. Printing and export remain available when a deck cannot be saved.

Lore

A living, shared graph

What is lore in ScryRPG?
A living, shared graph that links NPCs, locations, factions, and clues. The table uses it and your familiar can act on it, rather than a static wiki it only reads.
Can the GM keep secrets?
Yes. GM-only secrets stay hidden while the rest is shared with the party, and every player view is filtered by the server.

Characters

Full sheets wired into the campaign

Which systems get full character sheets?
D&D 5e, Pathfinder 2e, Daggerheart, and Draw Steel.
Do sheets connect to the rest of the campaign?
Yes. A character sheet lives inside the party and stays in step with the loot, the gold, and the inventory the table shares.
Can a character join a fight?
Yes. Characters from any supported system can take a place in an encounter's initiative as combatants.

Discord

The same campaign, run from chat

Is the Discord bot the same campaign as the web app?
Yes. Discord and the web reach one campaign, with no second copy to keep in sync.
What can the table do from Discord?
Slash commands cover the between-session table actions, including /inventory, /give, /shop, /loot, /encounter, /lore, /ask, /character, /party, /add, /remove, and /roll.
Do players need to sign up first?
No. A player's account is created from Discord the first time they run a command, and they can claim web access whenever they want it.
Does the bot record voice?
No. The bot does not listen to Discord voice channels.

Your familiar

Chores, not story

What does your familiar do?
Your familiar is your campaign's AI assistant. It handles chores grounded in your own campaign, not generic fantasy: level a character, split the gold, restock a shop, update the quest log. It is designed to do the bookkeeping, not to run your story.
Does it change anything on its own?
No. It proposes, and nothing changes until you approve it.
Can it roll dice?
Yes. Your familiar rolls honest server-side dice on request, and /roll does the same in Discord.
Is it required?
No. Every core tool works without it, and it can be turned off whenever your table wants to run by hand.

Import

Bring your notes in

What can you import?
Markdown, an Obsidian vault, PDFs, plain documents, and pasted text. ScryRPG reads them and pulls out people, places, items, secrets, and threads as connected records.
Do imports go straight into the campaign?
No. You review and edit every record in a staging step, and nothing is saved until you confirm.

Foundry

Works with Foundry VTT

Does ScryRPG work with Foundry VTT?
The ScryRPG module for Foundry is in closed beta. It connects your Foundry world to your party, and lore, characters, shops, loot, and inventory sync in.
What happens when you deploy an encounter to Foundry?
Deployed encounters arrive as actors, tokens carrying the creatures' art, and a combat tracker with initiative rolled server-side.
Does Foundry change your ScryRPG campaign?
No. Campaign data flows one way, into Foundry, so the module cannot alter your source of truth. Writeback is coming carefully, starting with shop purchases.
What do players see in Foundry?
Player truth: revealed encounters with health bands, identified items only, and the lore they are allowed to see. The server filters every payload per viewer.

What ScryRPG is not

Where the lines are

Not a VTT
ScryRPG preps and deploys the encounter; the table runs the battle wherever it likes, from theater of the mind to a VTT to graph paper. Bring your own maps.
Not a wiki
Lore is a living, shared graph the table uses and your familiar acts on, not stored text it only reads.
Not an AI DM
Your familiar does the chores so the humans can play. It does not replace the GM or run your story.
