How loot works

Shops

Your players shop between sessions.

Reveal a shop and your players browse and buy from their own phones, between sessions. The gold comes out of their purse, the item lands in their pack, and the shop's stock updates. You don't track any of it.

Lore

The whole table writes the lore.

Every player can add what they learn, from any device, and the pages link people, places and events together. Pages you mark GM Only, and your GM Notes, stay with you until you reveal them.

Later, Dana opens the page and reads the addition.

How lore works

AI Familiar

Your familiar keeps the books.

Stocking a shop, handing out gold, recapping last session: ask your familiar in a sentence, and it works from everything your campaign knows. Rather do it yourself? It can stick to answering questions, or switch off entirely.

Name yours anything.

  • give everyone 200 gold
  • reveal the blacksmith shop to the party
  • find loot for a level 5 party
  • summarize what happened last session

The party opens the shop and finds it stocked.

Do my players have to pay?

No. The free plan covers one party and one character. Players in more campaigns can add the optional Player plan.

Do my players need Discord?

No. Everything works in your browser on any phone or computer. Discord is there if your table lives in it.

Do players install anything?

No. ScryRPG runs in the browser, and players can add it to their home screen like an app.

What happens when I hit a free limit?

Nothing you've made goes away. You'll see an upgrade prompt when you try to go past a limit, like opening a second shop.

How does AI usage work for my familiar?

Everything your familiar does counts toward your monthly AI usage, from answering a question to updating your campaign. Paid plans include more, and it resets each month.

Can players see my GM notes?

No. GM-only pages stay hidden until you reveal them, and the GM notes on a page never show to players, even after you reveal it.

Do you work with my VTT?

ScryRPG runs alongside any VTT. Foundry VTT is in closed beta by invitation. Patrons get an invitation; anyone can ask in our Discord.

What permissions does the Discord bot need?

Adding the bot asks only for permission to use its slash commands. A few commands post in the channel, like /roll, /show and need or greed ballots, so the bot also needs to see and post in that channel.
